Getting started

The Folders & Groups screen in Airship allows you to create named groups in which to store your customer data. If you haven’t already, take a look at our article on how to create and manage your folders and groups

But what do the stats and numbers mean on this screen?

Unique contacts vs non-unique contacts

The Folders & Groups interface will look something like the below and will list out all the folders and groups you have on the particular unit/site you are viewing.

Here are some things to bear in mind about the numbers...

Folder counts are non-unique

The folder counts show a total for each column for all the groups within that folder. In other words, the numbers you see below are non-unique contact counts. Why? Because a contact could exist in more than one group within a folder:

Group counts are unique

However, the group counts are for unique contacts within that group, as a contact can only ever exist once within a group:

Active contact method totals

We also show you the total active contact methods for each group.

Remember, a single contact record could have any combination of an active mobile, email or postal address, so could be represented multiple times within each of these numbers:

Read rates

We also show you the average read rate for contacts within a particular group.

This is very useful if you want to compare read rates between groups of contacts. You may notice some groupings have considerably better read rates than others. For example, contacts in a WiFi Sign Ups group may be low-engagement whereas contacts in a Web Signs Ups group might show much higher engagement.

Unit Totals

At the very bottom of the Folders & Groups list, you’ll also see a Unit Totals row. This gives you the total unique contacts across the whole unit in each contact method category.

For example, you can see the Total Unique Contacts on the unit with an Active Mobile.
